OUR 35th REUNION
June, 1997

Our 35th reunion was not much of an event.  I didn’t put a great effort into organizing it, and only seven of us showed up: Bill Anthony, Tom Bird, Terry Duvall, Dave Griswold, Ned Groth, Bob Lang and Gib Manchester.  Gib drove all the way from Ohio, and Terry and Anita made it to one of their first major reunions, having missed the 20th, 25th and 30th because they were living in Africa and Beijing at those times.  I didn’t get a group photo (one was taken for the Peg Board, but I don’t seem to have that issue.  If anyone has it, please scan the picture for me, or send me the issue and I’ll return it.)  Other than the fact that I took these photos, I can’t even prove that I was there….               –NG

The weather was cold and rainy.  We had no softball game, because the School had erected an enormous tent on the field, where cocktails and then dinner were served.  We still enjoyed our modest reunion!

A ceremony was held at this reunion to honor Charles Brodhead, who was then nearly 90 years old, for his lifetime of service to Darrow.  Here, Charles, accompanied by his son John, chats with Harry Savage ’59.

At the alumni meeting in the chapel, Charles was presented with a certificate of appreciation, and shared some reminiscences with the assembled alumni.

John and Jean Joline attended, as they have almost all of our major reunions.  Jean, who was recovering from cancer surgery, still managed a few dances when the band played oldies.  As it turned out, this was the last time we saw Jean.

This was a low-key reunion for our class.  I just drove up for the day on Saturday (with my son, Daniel).  We didn’t fill a dorm and we had no Friday night party, just a gathering of a few friends on a rainy Saturday.
